Join Tudor Times for an afternoon of talks on Saturday 14th October 2023 at 4pm London time from three experts about Magnificence: Power and Display at the Tudor Court.
The speakers are:
Dr Glenn Richardson - The Field of Cloth of Gold: magnificence and diplomacy. Glenn is Professor of Early Modern History at Queen Mary College, University of London. He is the author of The Field of Cloth of Gold,
an extensive examination of all aspects of the most famous diplomatic
meeting of the sixteenth century, between England and France. He will
discuss the importance of magnificence in diplomacy.
Dr Nicola Tallis - All the Queen's Jewels, 1445 - 1548: power, majesty, and display. Nicola
is the author of five books on the Tudor period. She will be talking
about the jewels owned by the fifteenth and sixteenth century English
queens consort, and the importance of display in constructing the royal
persona.
Eleri Lynn - Tudor Fashion: power and beauty at the Tudor court. Extravagant apparel was part of the Tudor courtier's bid for royal attention. Eleri, who specialises in the textiles and dress of the Tudor court, and has authored prize-winning monographs on the topic, will explain more about the importance of fashion and beauty.
